Key West Technologies Executive Overview
Jim Davis
Jim founded Key West Technologies in June of 1999. He has thirty years of experience in the technology industry including twenty five at IBM, where he was a Senior Technical Staff Member, a member of IBM's Academy of Science and Technology and Chief Technical Officer of the IBM PC Company Premium Brands. He was a principal member of a small industry group that created the U.S. EPA Energy Star Program and evangelized this U.S. program around the world. He conceived of and drove the development of IBM's "Green" Machine which won the Best-of-Show award at Comdex in 1992 and was dubbed the “Dream Machine” by PC Week magazine. Jim is the recipient of several industry awards including the Electric Power Research Institute "Innovators" Award and, at the time of its presentation, IBM's largest individual Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. He was recognized as one of the Top 50 R&D Scientists in the US by Design News in 1993.
Jim served as Director of Intel's Home Computing Laboratory which was responsible for developing a "consumer" focused Pentium platform strategy and "consumer vision" for Intel. With Intel’s help, Jim launched his own company, Key West Technologies, Inc., in 1995, to pursue his vision of interactive television and a global content distribution network. Key West Technologies, Inc. was acquired by Interaxx Television Network in 1996 where Jim served as CEO until joining MRT micro ASA in Norway. He served as President and CEO of MRT micro ASA, a digital imaging company focused on digital camera network solutions and service provisioning for a range of vertical markets.
Jim is currently consulting and advising a number of firms with regard to technology, e-commerce, business strategy, development and general management. Jim sits on the Boards of Directors and Technical Advisory Boards of a number of public and private firms. Jim was a Visiting Scholar at Florida Atlantic University and holds a number of US and European patents in a diversity of technologies.
Thomas W. Jackson
Tom has twenty years of marketing, management and business development experience in emerging technology markets. Tom was a pioneer in the online industry managing the Rocky Mountain Region for CompuServe, sales and marketing of the AMA / NET physician network and CONNECT in the 1980s. Tom is recognized as a wireless industry leader, creating and evangelized wireless data communication offerings in the early 1990s with Fujitsu. He was recruited by Intel to found a wireless communication business unit, his team launched innovative products on schedule and under budget including an innovative revenue sharing arrangement with Bell South ($60M), and marketing agreements including Microsoft, Lotus, Ericsson and AT&T.
As Marketing Manager, Tom worked with Jim Davis in the Intel Home Computing Laboratory, developing reference designs that lead the home PC revolution. Tom founded and managed iMove.com, a patented 3D-visualization software company, closing co-marketing agreements with Adobe, Autodesk, Kodak and leading game companies. Tom managed the turn-around of digital imaging software leader InMedia Presentations into an online photo finishing, sharing and information e-commerce offering -- PhotoChannel.com. Tom is currently consulting for and advising a number of firms, and holds an MBA and a BSEM.
Ash Gupte
Ash has a uniquely broad business and management background developed over his more than twenty years of working in the technology arena with corporate giants as well as startup ventures. Currently, Ash is in the final stages of selling Etrieve, Inc., a company he founded in 1998 and where he serves as the President and COO and as a member of the Board of Directors.
Among his prior roles, for 14 years as a member of the senior management team, Ash provided Intel with finance and business development expertise. There, he structured deals with start-ups to Fortune 50 companies, ranging from technology and product licensing to investments and company acquisitions in the US and abroad. This experience is complemented by his operational experience in big and small businesses at Intel. He also co-founded and served as Vice President of Business Development for The Palace, Inc. which was a joint enterprise between Intel, Time Warner and Softbank. Ash is active as a Board or Advisory Board member of a number of new businesses. Ash has an MBA from Wharton and a Bachelor's in Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology.
Willy Wiik
Willy has thirty years of experience in corporate finance, international banking, venture capital and investment funds. He has been involved in a number of management buyout and initial public offering transactions of technology and other companies, as a financial advisor as well as from within the enterprise as a Board Member. Willy currently serves on the Boards of several public and private companies in Norway and Sweden.
From 1970 until 1992, he held various positions in banking institutions, in Oslo, London, Houston, New York and Luxembourg. In Houston, he was President of DnB Finance Corp. One of the appointments in Oslo was as Head of the Merchant Banking Division for Bergen Bank, and in Luxembourg, he was M.D. of DnB Luxembourg.
In 1993, he was recruited to start up and manage the Norwegian Government’s Equity Investment Fund (SND Invest), with the equivalent of USD 300 mill. under management. During the four years at SND, he established a broad range of contacts in Norwegian industry.
In 1997, he became a partner in an investment fund focused on hi-tech companies in Scandinavia and the USA, AmerScan, Inc. In 1998, he became Managing Director of Fondspartner, a stock-brokerage company seeking to expand its corporate finance activities.
Willy joined Key West Technologies and Viking Capital in 2000.
Morten Aas
Morten has twenty years of experience in corporate finance and international investment banking. He founded Viking Capital, AS in 1993, a small private investment banking partnership providing general financial advisory services with a focus on international corporate finance, investment management and private banking.
Morten was previously the Chief Executive Officer at Samuel Montagu AS / Midland Montagu AS, Oslo. He was responsible for establishing and managing the Norwegian subsidiary of Samuel Montagu & Co Limited, a British merchant bank later acquired by the Midland Bank PLC (now part of HSBC Holding PLC). The bank provided a full range of investment banking, stock broking, treasury and lending services to corporate and government clients as well as high net worth individuals.
Prior to Samuel Montagu Morten was one of eight founding partners of Oslo Finans AS, an investment banking firm sponsored and 50% owned by Christiania Bank, Norway’s second largest banking group. Morten has also held executive positions at Bank of America NT & SA, London and Copenhagen.
Morten and Viking Capital entered into partnership with Key West Technologies in 2000.
Luis Ismodes
Luis is a senior executive with 27 years of experience in Information Technology and Telecommunications, working for major corporations in Latin America and the US. He held executive positions in PDVSA (Venezuelan Oil Company), Intesa (Joint Venture between SAIC and PDVSA) where he was responsible for the migration from mainframe to Open Systems for INTEVEP (Research and Development PDVSA affiliate) and created the PDVSA Open Systems Interconnection Profile (POSIP) defining the strategy to migrate from the SNA-IBM data network to TCP/IP.
As the President of Group CAVETEL, Luis managed 5 Telecommunication companies, including a Joint Venture with NEC (Japan) for the process of PBX manufacturing in Venezuela.
The first year in United States, was the Vice President of Product Development with RSL COM Latin America, where defined and designed the IP-based solutions strategy (VPN, Web and Applications hosting) to be implemented in the RSL operations in Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela.
As CTO/CIO of Todo1 Services, Banks Alliance and the Internet Financial Portal for 4 Latin American and 1 USA Bank, in 4 different countries, Luis helped Todo1 to develop solutions for Retail Banking, Cash management and EBPP. He also managed the services infrastructure that growth from zero clients to more than One Million in three years. One of the challenges was to develop those applications with an outsourcing and internal teams of 60 professionals disperse in 4 different Countries.
Luis is ITSM/ITIL certified, holds Electronic/Telecommunications Engineering and MBA degrees.
Rodolfo García
Rodolfo Garcia has over 30 years of experience in general management, business development, marketing and sales of telecommunications products and services in the Americas working for major telecommunications companies.
Most recently, Rodolfo as the President & CEO of BSI, a company he founded, provided telecommunications and IT consulting services, and integrate and sell IP-based solutions in Latin America. Some of BSI customers include Bell South, Equant, Mosaix (now Lucent), Algar Group in Brazil, Telefonica Autrey in Mexico (now Telefonica). BSI also provided Call Center consulting services to a number of companies in Mexico and Brazil.
Rodolfo previously served as President & CEO of RSL COM Latin America and launched its telecommunications operations in Mexico, Venezuela, and Brazil. He eventually assumed additional responsibility as CEO of RSL COM USA.
Prior to RSL, Rodolfo served in various positions with Telenet, Sprint International and Global One. He created and managed Sprint International’s Latin American Business Solutions Sales Organization to sell international voice, data, and value added services solutions to corporate customers and telecommunications companies in Latin America and the Caribbean. He developed strategic alliances with major companies in Canada and Latin America for the operation and sales of Sprint's data and value-added services. He managed Sprint’s Value Added Services distribution organization and developed Telenet’s Data and Messaging interconnect agreements in Latin America, and Southern Europe. Earlier in his career, Rodolfo created and managed sales and operationing divisions in Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico for GTE International Products Corporation, to market and sell their full range of telecommunications network products. Before joining GTE, Rodolfo was the Chief Engineer for the Peruvian Telephone Company (today Telefonica).
Rodolfo has an Electrical Engineering Degree and has completed graduate studies in Telecommunications Engineering. Rodolfo is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of Portuguese.
Havard Wollan
Havard has fifteen years of experience from the technology sector in general management, sales and marketing, business development, product development and venture financing. Most recently he was CEO of Trustix, a company he co-founded in 1997 and which was later sold. Trustix was a leading independent software provider developing and marketing the Trustix Linux Solutions range of products world-wide with IBM and other partners in the USA, Europe and Asia.
Havard has been CEO of InnovationMarket, a public small exchange for IPOs and secondary trading in stocks in small cap companies. He has been Senior Project Manager at the business innovation group of The Industrial Development Corporation of Norway.
Havard has served on the Board of several companies. Through working with small and medium sized technology companies in the USA, Europe and Asia, he has gained broad international experience. He speaks several languages.
Fred DeVries
Fred is a senior level global executive with twenty-five years of experience in the Telecommunications industry with Nortel Networks. He has a proven ability to penetrate new Markets and Accounts while managing all facets of strategic business units. While at Nortel Fred held various senior positions in the Optical, Switching, Network Access, and Enterprise product organizations. His diverse multi cultural experience also includes regional expatriate assignments in Europe, Hong Kong and Mexico after his initial transfer from Canada to Nortel's Caribbean and Latin American (CALA) headquarters in Sunrise, Florida.
Recently Fred held the position of Vice President Sales-Enterprise Service Providers (Europe) developing commercial relationships with and deploying CRM, Network Management, Optical, Voice and Data Networks through major European Service Providers and Integrators to Fortune 500 companies. Prior to that Fred held the position of Benelux Regional Managing Director - Enterprise Network Solutions managing all facets of the business while on assignment in Amsterdam.
During his career Fred has had the opportunity to executive manage prestigious Accounts such as TeleDenmark, KPN, Deutsch Telecom, Swisscom, Eircom, Telecom Italia, Telenor, Telia, Sonera, Telefonica, Telecom Italia, Getronics and Telindus in Europe; Telmex, Avantel and Red Uno in Mexico; Bell Canada and Alberta Govt Tel in Canada; and Bell South, SBC, Anixter, Cabletron and Williams (WCG) in the United States.
A graduate of the internationally renowned Queen's University in Canada, Fred majored in Business and Economics. He also has a post graduate degree in Certified Management (CMA) specializing in advanced business management.
Renato Mariani
Renato joined Key West Technologies after an illustrious twenty year career in the telecommunications world with Nortel Networks Technology where he most recently lead a Corporate Strategy team designed to analyze market and technology evolution scenarios, recovery tactics and going forward strategies to achieve success in an uncertain and difficult market. Renato began his career at Nortel in Research and Development as a Member of the Scientific Staff investigating various telecommunications technologies like outside plant technology, cable, installation products and methods, structures research and cable testing. Renato managed the Fiber Link Engineering group responsible for research on the deployment of advanced fiber systems to the residential subscriber associated with Nortel Networks' premiere Fiber-to-the-Home trial in conjunction with Southern Bell in Orlando, Florida. Renato eventually became the Director of Product Marketing: Canada, responsible for all Transmission Access Network market opportunities relating to Nortel Networks' new FiberWorld network philosophy and product line.
Renato joined Nortel Networks CALA (Caribbean and Latin America), in Florida, in 1993 and was responsible for the Transmission and Broadband Engineering (Systems and Customer Engineering) organization supporting the CALA Region in pre-sales and post-sales activities. Renato held a variety of senior post in Broadband Networks Marketing, Carrier Networks Marketing and Integrated Brand Management supporting the Marketing, Proposals, and Brand Management activities for the CALA region. Renato returned to the North American market directing Business Development activities for the U.S. emerging service provider market, including CLECs, ASPs, BLECs, among others; Nortel Corporate Strategic Marketing and Nortel Industry Analyst Relations.
Renato holds four U.S and Canadian patents related to cable splicing and optical testing technology; is a Registered Professional Engineer and a five-time recipient of the prestigious Nortel Networks Award of Excellence, and a recipient of the Nortel Networks CALA Award of Excellence. Renato received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1979 from Carleton University in Ottawa.
Sharon Podwol
Ms. Podwol most recently served as VP of Interactive Marketing for i3 Mobile, overseeing the Web strategy and interactive marketing of Pronto, the Company's premium subscription service that turns any mobile phone into a Mobile Personal Assistant. Ms. Podwol has nearly 20 years of interactive product development and marketing expertise. She has spearheaded online and traditional marketing programs and projects for global brands including IBM, BMW, AT&T, Campbell Soup, American Express, Parke-Davis and Disney Theme Parks.
Previous to this position, she served as Vice President of Programming and Production for eView Technologies where she created eView's online interface for advertisers and agencies, allowing them to remotely customize creative and scheduling instantly. She also served as Sr. Vice President of Network Development for Interaxx Television Network where she was responsible for the look, feel and function of network programs, including Enhanced TV. Formerly a Vice President for The SoftAd Group and Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, Podwol also has extensive experience as an Interactive and New Media consultant.
Ms. Podwol received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. She has served as Guest Instructor for the Georgia Institute of Technology, Chairwoman of the New Technologies committee of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, President of the International Interactive Communications Society, and has been a guest speaker and presenter at a number of industry conferences and conventions.
Keith Flaugh
Keith Flaugh brings over 25 years of corporate experience in finance and marketing to his clients. This includes fifteen years in various executive IBM financial and marketing positions in group headquarters, product divisions, and marketing units. Key highlights include two years as Global Pricing Director for IBM.com, six years of product leasing and global financial program development within the technology industry, and three years as CFO for IBM’s storage products division.
Primary areas of expertise are: financial and operational process reengineering; budgeting and strategic planning; working across large complex organizations to implement challenging marketing strategies; product pricing and product positioning within multi-brand and global environments; and investment and joint venture analysis. Keith is quickly able to identify the strategic aspects of a situation, is analytical in his approach, and is an aggressive and creative problem solver.
His educational experience includes an undergraduate in Forestry Science, and an MBA, both from the University of Montana. In addition, he served as an officer in the US Army including 2 years as a battery commander of an air defense artillery unit in Europe. He also completed numerous advanced management courses with IBM and has an intermediate level of fluency in Spanish.
Ishrat Khurshid
Ishrat is a Program Management Institute certified Program Management Professional and a Senior IT and software development manager with over sixteen years of experience working with companies like the Beckman Coulter Corporation, Ocwen Technology and AAJ Technologies. Ishrat has a thorough knowledge of the total software development life cycle including scope definition, requirements gathering, design, project planning, plan execution, and overall project tracking and control. He has specific experience in managing ERP implementation projects such as JD Edwards / OneWorld and Oracle.
Ishrat has unique skills and experience in setting up off shore development operations and managing outsourced software development projects. He has recently undertaken the project management of a clients existing software development team and successfully transitioned the complete operation to India. This transition was effected over a three month period requiring Ishrat to travel to India only once. The project resulted in a 70% annual “facilitized” cost reduction for client. Ishrat has a thorough understanding of cultural and language issues and specializes in overcoming communication problems due to culture, time, and distance.
Jack Becker
Jack is President of Snow Becker Krauss P.C., and Chairman of the firm’s Corporate & Securities Department. He specializes in the fields of federal and state securities laws, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, and has substantial experience with investment banking and merchant bankers.
Mr. Becker is a recognized authority in oil and gas transactions and public and private securities financings. He represents buyers, sellers, intermediaries and management teams in a broad range of mergers and acquisitions, and provides legal advice to assist clients and their financial advisers in structuring their transactions to meet tax, accounting and regulatory requirements.
Mr. Becker has extensive background and familiarity with the launching and supporting of new companies, and the forming of strategic alliances. He has numerous contacts in the financial community which may be a source for early stage venture capital and later stage financing.
Mr. Becker’s specialties also include providing legal advice concerning regulatory filings and compliance matters. He is admitted to practice law in New York. He received a B.S. degree (cum laude, 1957) from New York University, and a law degree (1960) from New York University School of Law. He was an enforcement attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission, New York Regional Office from 1962 to 1966 where he became a Branch Chief, and the Assistant Director of Compliance of the American Stock Exchange from 1967 to 1968. In 1968, Mr. Becker entered private practice, and in 1977 became a founding member of the firm. He is a member of both the American Bar Association (Member, Section on Corporation, Banking and Business Law), and the New York State Bar Association
Craig Shinners
Craig is a patent Attorney in private practice focusing on the protection of electrical and computer-related technology.He is a former in-house counsel for Rexon Inc., a manufacturer of computer peripherals and software products. Before joining Rexon, he was with the San Francisco law firm of Townsend and Townsend where his practice focused on intellectual property protection, primarily in the electronic arts. Prior professional experience includes engineering positions involving automotive electronics with Delco Electronics and semiconductor products with TRW and Applied Micro Circuits Corp. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego. He is a member of the State Bar and admitted to practice in California and before the United State and Trademark Office.
